Catherine is a full-time galleried artist who creates contemporary abstract paintings with a variety of media that is unusual and captivating.

Primarily an abstract painter, Catherine works with resin and mixed media, establishing her own vocabulary of texture and interruption through colour and form. By a process of addition and manipulation Catherine explores the relationship between surface and depth, creating a dynamic interplay between elements. This love of materiality is evident in her work.

'I am inspired by meditations on subjects such as light and landscape'.

She was born in Auckland in 1966, and  raised in Taranaki and Auckland. Her life growing up on the East Coast and West Coast beaches and extensive overseas travel have provided a rich resource for her art.

After studying Visual Arts at M.I.T. she has been in solo and many group exhibitions throughout New Zealand. She has work in private collections as far afield as Tennessee, Australia and the UK. Catherine paints full-time from her studio in Takapuna.

‘My latest body of work has been inspired by the seductive materials and colours which investigate modern techniques of mixed media art. As a result of experimentation and a fascination with colour charts I’ve derived a new avenue for creative expression through my use of colouring and resins.’
